Job Summary

As a Sales Development Representative (SDR) focused on the North Carolina and Virginia markets, you’ll play a crucial role in building the early-stage sales pipeline. You’ll be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, qualifying leads, and supporting the broader sales team in cultivating relationships with municipal leaders, utility managers, and engineering consultants.

This is a high-impact, field-influenced role ideal for someone who thrives on outreach, is comfortable engaging with technical buyers, and is passionate about infrastructure that matters. Ideal candidates will flourish in relationship selling.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Prospect and engage new potential clients across the NC and VA regions through calls, emails, LinkedIn, in-person cold calls and trade show networking.
  • Research municipalities, utilities, and consulting engineering firms to identify key contacts and opportunities.
  • Qualifying inbound and outbound leads, determining fit and potential project needs.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of training sessions on water system basics and best practices for clients.
  • Book discovery meetings for the regional sales team and nurture leads through early sales stages.
  • Stay informed on local and state-level infrastructure projects, funding initiatives, and regulatory developments.
  • Log and manage all outreach activities and lead status in CRM and other USG platforms (e.g., OSC, HubSpot).
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and local association meetings in NC and VA.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in sales, lead generation, or business development (B2B, infrastructure, construction, or environmental services preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Familiarity with municipal and utility sales cycles is a strong plus.
  • Self-starter with excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Based in North Carolina or Virginia, with the ability to travel regionally (approx. 20–30%).
  • Proficiency with CRM tools and digital outreach platforms.
  • Passion for sustainable infrastructure and public utility systems.
  •  Background in civil/environmental engineering, construction, or public works preferred.
  • Knowledge of funding mechanisms (e.g., SRF, IIJA) and state procurement processes preferred.
  • Connections in NC/VA utility or municipal markets, preferred.
