Trihalomethane (THM) Removal Systems

1 min read

Benefits

  • Cost-effective
  • Energy-efficient
  • Custom-designed

Because of the health risks associated with long-term consumption of disinfection by-products (DBP), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established rules limiting DBP levels in drinking water. The turnkey PAX TRSTM THM removal system is a significantly faster and cheaper way to reduce trihalomethane levels, especially when compared to the alternative: making changes to the upstream processes in the treatment plant.

Challenges

  • Compliance
EPA’s Stage 1 and Stage 2 rules establish maximum allowable levels of DBPs in drinking water.
  • Cost
Alternatives to DBP removal— eliminating organics from upstream processing—can be costly.
  • Water quality
Long-term consumption of DBPs may increase health risks, according to EPA.
