Job Summary
The Field Services Technician is a graduated position providing advancement potential upon demonstration of the mastery of skills to deliver increasingly complex products from storage tanks to water and wastewater network systems.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Grade 1: Entry Level (Grade 7 entry; Grade 8 after one year)
- Perform field asset inspections for annual reports
- Share and make recommendations on rigging techniques
- Identify issues and make recommendations that need to be resolved during inspections
- Develop and maintain water system networks including piping, valves, hydrants, wells, and treatment plants
Grade 2: Intermediate Level (Grade 9)
- Must be proficient in Grade 1 Tasks plus the following
- Acquire and maintain Welding certification, 1G position for typical moderate steel repairs
- Perform Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) inspections of water system assets
- Execute general rigging techniques
- Assist in one of the following: ice pigging, mixer installation, TRS installation, well rehabilitation, valve and hydrant maintenance, leak detection, or other water system service
Grade 3: Proficient Level (Grade 10)
- Must be proficient in Grade 1 and 2 Tasks plus the following
- Perform proper coating preparation, abrasive blasting technique and execution of tank renovation
- Acquire and maintain Welding certification, 4G position for moderate to heavy steel repairs
- Perform and complete one of the following: ice pigging, mixer installation, TRS installation, well rehabilitation, valve and hydrant maintenance, leak detection, or other water system service.
Grade 4: Leadman Level (Grade 12; Limited to one per FST Crew)
- Lead crew in the field organization and delivery of services
- Perform delivery of two (2) or more of the products to include, but are not limited to the following:
- Maintenance and Mixer mechanical installation
- Maintenance and TRS mechanical installation
- Valve and Hydrant troubleshooting and maintenance including GIS/GPS capability
- Perform all tasks associated with Leak Detection techniques
- Perform all tasks associated with Ice Pigging techniques
- Perform all tasks associated with Well Maintenance techniques; primarily CO2 and/or chemical injection
Education & Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to acquire welding certifications and CDL license
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Water system operator certificate, NACE Certification and Technical School Certification is a plus
- Strong communications skills that should increase with grade progression
- Knowledge and ability to work with subcontractors that increases with grade progression
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge of interior and exterior tank coatings
- Knowledge of Water and Wastewater network systems
- Knowledge and skills associated with the water and wastewater distribution, treatment, and monitoring that will assist in properly delivering products associated with these systems
Will be required to climb to elevated heights when working with tanks. Must be able to work in confined spaces. Traveling away from home is a must and occasionally 7 days a week. Work is done in all outdoor weather conditions and temperatures. Lengthy vehicle travels are a common occurrence. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
