Job Summary
Position Summary
The Entry-Level Project & Estimating Engineer supports the bid and project administration functions for water tower coatings renovation projects. This role is designed for a soon-to-graduate or recently graduated college student with an engineering or construction management background who is interested in preconstruction, estimating, contract administration, and process improvement.
The position is primarily office-based in Perry, Georgia, with occasional travel to project sites. The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently for extended periods while also communicating effectively with internal team members, suppliers, subcontractors, clients, and field personnel.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Bid Review and Scope Development
- Review project plans, specifications, bid documents, and contract requirements.
- Identify key technical, commercial, and schedule requirements within bid packages.
- Assist with development of project scopes of work for pricing and execution.
- Evaluate bid documents for risk factors, exclusions, clarifications, and compliance requirements.
Estimating and Risk Assessment
- Support preparation of cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other direct and indirect costs.
- Participate in bid specification review and risk assessment activities.
- Help identify pricing gaps, scope concerns, and constructability issues.
- Assist with estimate organization, documentation, and proposal preparation.
Technical Submittals
- Prepare technical submittal packages in accordance with contract documents and customer requirements.
- Coordinate collection of product data, certifications, drawings, schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Track submittal status and maintain organized records for internal use and customer submission.
Project and Contract Management Support
- Assist with project and contract management duties following award.
- Prepare and submit pay applications, change orders, requests for information, and closeout packages.
- Support documentation of project changes, contract requirements, and customer communications.
- Maintain accurate and organized project files throughout the project lifecycle.
Department Tools and AI Solutions
- Support development, improvement, and modification of estimating tools, templates, and workflows.
- Assist with data organization and analysis to improve estimating accuracy and efficiency.
- Help identify, test, and implement meaningful AI solutions that improve department effectiveness in document review, estimating support, risk evaluation, and administrative workflows.
- Contribute ideas for continuous improvement in how the department performs core tasks.
Communication and Relationship Building
- Communicate professionally with internal teams, vendors, subcontractors, and customers.
- Build productive working relationships that support efficient execution of bid and project tasks.
- Participate in meetings and follow-up actions with clear written and verbal communication.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Communications skills with strong verbal and written correspondence.
- Ability to work independently in a primarily office-based setting.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, plans, and specifications.
- Analytical problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Power BI, and Outlook.
- Ability and willingness to learn estimating systems, project documentation processes, and AI-enabled tools.
- Empathy for others including external and internal customers, colleagues.
- Discipline to accomplish tasks within established deadlines.
- Ability to effectively follow policies and procedures and work as part of a team
- Demonstrates professionalism and follows proper workplace etiquette
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field, or expected graduation within the next 12 months.
- Internship, co-op, or academic project experience related to construction, estimating, project management, engineering, or contract administration is preferred.
- Interest in construction bidding, project coordination, and contract documentation.
- Interest in process improvement, digital tools, and applied AI solutions.
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to construction estimating, project controls, or contract administration.
- Experience using spreadsheets or databases to organize and analyze information.
- Familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, and submittal processes.
- Basic understanding of automation, scripting, data analysis, or AI-assisted workflows.
Work Environment
- Based in the Perry, Georgia office.
- Approximately 90% office environment.
- Frequent independent work with regular coordination across departments.
- Occasional travel to active job sites where water tower coatings renovation work is being performed.
Physical and Other Requirements
- Ability to travel occasionally to project sites.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.
- Ability to safely access construction and industrial job sites when needed, including use of required personal protective equipment.
