AMI Site Survey Process

2 min read

Before your utility can plan an AMI deployment, order equipment, or evaluate costs, you need to know what’s actually in the ground. For many small and mid-sized water utilities, that baseline doesn’t exist. Meter records don’t match field conditions, pit and lid conditions are undocumented, and billing data hasn’t been verified against installed equipment. That leaves the questions that matter most unanswered: which meters are really out there, what materials will be needed, and how much the upgrade will cost. AMI planning built on those assumptions leads to change orders, delays, and cost overruns.

USG Water Solutions’ AMI Site Survey closes that gap before deployment begins. Our field crews document every meter and MTU in your system, capture specs for large commercial and industrial meters, verify installed equipment against your billing records, and inspect each pit, box, and lid for replacement needs. Every location is photographed and pinned on a system map. The result is a complete baseline of your community-wide metering information, delivered in a dashboard that captures connection types, shut-off devices, active leaks, moisture in registers, and pipe material at the meter. With that foundation, your utility can identify incompatible equipment early, size orders accurately, and move into AMI deployment without surprises.
